المفهوم

المحبة مشتقة من الجذر حبّ — نواة البذرة. الحب ليس عاطفة؛ بل المركز التوليدي. أربعة قلوب هندسية، كل منها يوجه طرفه نحو المركز المشترك.

Love (Mahabbah) comes from the root hubba — a seed kernel, the smallest essential core. Love is not sentiment; it is the generative center from which everything else grows. Four geometric hearts, each pointing its tip toward the shared center: love is the convergence, the meeting point.

النمط

رسم خطي لنمط Square Hearts

Four geometric hearts point their tips toward a shared center — four loves, from four directions, arriving at the same point. Mahabbah is the convergence: the meeting of what comes from different places at the one point they share. Palestinian love is communal as much as individual — the love of family, of village, of land, of God — all meeting at the center of the self. The heart tips touch without merging; they meet without losing their individual shapes.

الدلالة الثقافية

The Geometric Heart (Qalb al-Murabba'at) is a distinctively Palestinian development — the universal symbol of love translated into the precise, angular language of cross-stitch. The conventional heart shape, with its smooth curves, cannot be executed in cross-stitch; Palestinian embroiderers transformed it into a form made of squares and triangles, which can. The result is more honest: the geometric heart shows its structure, makes its construction visible.

Love in Palestinian folk culture is rarely private — it is embedded in family structure, in community obligation, in the complex web of relationships that sustain village and urban life. Palestinian wedding ceremonies, engagement celebrations, and birth rituals are all community events: private feelings expressed through communal forms. The four-heart composition — four loves converging on a shared center — reflects this communal understanding of Mahabbah.

The Four Hearts motif was developed specifically for wedding and celebratory garments — the thobe worn at the most joyful occasions of Palestinian life. Its appearance at weddings, births, and betrothals connects it to the specific cultural contexts in which love is publicly acknowledged and celebrated. The geometric heart is not the private sentiment of an individual; it is the formal declaration of a community that someone is loved.
